Boy, 15, Charged In Sex Assault On Blue Line Train

UPDATED: 10:32 p.m.

(CBS) -- A 15-year-old boy has been charged with sexually assaulting a Blue Line rider on a train earlier this week, according to Chicago police.

The attack happened on a Blue Line train headed for the Loop at 3:10 in the afternoon Monday. Police say the juvenile attacked the woman from behind, knocking her to the ground shortly after she boarded at the Oak Park Ave. stop. Police say he also stole the 41-year-old woman's iPhone and some cash.

After the attack, the suspect got off at Cicero, boarded a westbound train and got off again at Austin.

The Cook County State's Attorney's Office says DeShawn Isabelle, 15, was charged as an adult with one count of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault/Bodily Harm and one count of Robbery. He will appear in bond court Thursday morning.

Police say the teen turned himself into police accompanied by his guardian after police released surveillance images of the suspect.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel says this case demonstrates the importance of the CTA's network of security cameras.

"It was the camera and the picture from that car, from the rail car, that gave the police the ability to pass out the picture on the West Side that helped actually identify the perpetrator of that crime," Emanuel said.
