Couple's Vehicle Taken For High-Speed Joy Ride During Tune-Up

(CBS) – Ever wonder what's done with your car when you hand over the keys to someone else?

One north suburban couple knows what happened when their car was in for some work at the auto shop.

CBS 2's Brad Edwards reviews the tape.

When Drew Hovorka needed a 100,000-mile checkup for his Dodge Caliber, he went to Gurnee Chrysler earlier this week and dropped nearly $2,000. The vehicle had a Garmin dash-camera, and just for the heck of it, he reviewed the video after getting his car back.

"I'm flabbergasted," Hovorka says. "I can't believe he would drive a customer's car like that."

The video shows the driver got the vehicle up to 96 mph in a 50 mph zone.

"He broke so many laws just watching that 8-minute video, it was unbelievable," Hovorka  says.

His wife, Christine Hovorka says: "Luckily, we have a camera in the car to see what happens."

The dealership did not return calls or comment for this story.

The driving took place in land covered by the Lake County Sheriff's Department. An investigation is underway.
