'Radio Shopping Show' May Be The Best Kept Secret To Get Good Deals

(CBS) -- You've heard of social buying websites like Groupon or Living Social.

There's one place you may not have tuned in to.

CBS2's Erin Kennedy reports it's right on your radio dial.

The Radio Shopping Show is on the air at 1410 AM and online. Among the deals you can find there: a one-night stay at the American Hotel in Schaumburg, normally $104, is yours for $55.

A haircut at a Crystal Lake salon, usually $45, is yours for $14.

Deals are everywhere from Chicago, the suburbs, across the country and around the world.  The show offers everything from a single hamburger all the way up to this weeklong fishing trip in Ontario with lodging and all meals included (normally priced at over $1,000 and yours for just under $300).

"The advertiser is able take unsold merchandise and services and turn them into wonderful promotions. Our listeners are able to get bargains of up to 80 percent or more off, and we're able to take unsold airtime and turn it into instant cash," says Rick Jackle, president of Fox Valley Broadcasting.

You can also get the savings online.

The radio station goes back 40 years, and it's constantly reinventing itself and is very active on social media. The show also offers what other daily deals sites can't: the human voice.

"We have thousands and thousands of shoppers, yet our hosts know many of them just by the sound of their voice," Jackle says.

Paul and Susan Kuester were the first listeners to make a purchase, back in the mid-1970s. They bought a cocker spaniel they named Bargain.

"It gives us the opportunity to try things out there. The savings is tremendous," Paul Kuester says.

Art Leidecker has taken many trips, including a fishing trip, with his stepson. He now advertises his own business on the Radio Shopping Show.

A recent deal for him: an all-inclusive trip to Posada Real Los Cabos, in Mexico. The package for two people for three nights is normally $650, but he'll be paying $169.

"I haven't been disappointed in anything yet," he says.

The Radio Shopping show is located on the AM dial at 1410 and 1280.  Listeners obtain a free key card number, and they can start shopping.

The show airs at various times and they also have an app.
