Mother, 19, Killed In Shooting At South Side Party

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A gunman opened fire at three people who were attending a party Friday night on the Far South Side, leaving one woman dead and two others injured.

Witnesses say the shooter had been kicked out of the party, became angry and returned with a gun and opened fire.

The three were at the party about 11 p.m. in the 9300 block of South LaSalle, police said. The gunman opened fire both inside and outside the party, striking all three victims.

Nicole Towns, 19, was shot in the side and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Towns was the mother of a 3-year-old and had just started a new job on Monday, family members told CBS 2's Jeremy Ross.

Towns was inside the part when she was shot, police said.

"I don't really know how to feel, I am just in shock," said Towns' cousin, Edwin Thomas.

Another man – whose age was not immediately available – was also shot in the side. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. The other man, 27, was shot in the shoulder and self transported himself to Little Company of Mary Hospital, police said.

Police are still looking for the shooter.

"The sots went off by my dining room window," said neighbor, Mary Nelson. "I don't know. I always say, they think they're back in the Al Capone days and you can get a gun, just like that."
