4 Killed, 22 Wounded In Weekend Shootings

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Four people were killed and at least 22 others — including a 13-year-old boy — have been injured in Chicago gun violence since Friday morning, police said.

The most recent fatal shooting happened Sunday afternoon in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.

Tim Triplett, 20, was found outside in the 3500 block of West Flournoy at 12:40 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Police said he had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

Triplett, of the 4400 block of West Adams, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:15 p.m., the medical examiner's office said.

Triplett was a standout basketball player at Crane and Marshall. He also briefly attended Farragut, the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting.

"I've known him since he was a shorty coming out of elementary," said Farragut basketball coach William Nelson. "He was one of those guys that was just so tough and spirited on the court. A vocal guy, he could really get after it. He just played so hard."

Early Saturday, an 18-year-old man was found shot to death in the McKinley Park neighborhood on the South Side.

Javante Linson was found in a gangway in the 3400 block of South Hamilton with gunshot wounds to the head and abdomen, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Linson, of the 2700 block of West Lexington, was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:26 a.m., authorities said. A police source said he had documented gang ties.

Late Friday, a woman was killed and two men were injured in a shooting outside a house party in the Princeton Park neighborhood on the South Side.

About 11 p.m., the three were leaving the party in the 9300 block of South LaSalle when a gunman opened fire, police said.

Nicole M. Towns, 19, of the 7400 block of South Michigan, was shot in the side and was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:21 p.m., authorities said.

A 30-year-old man shot in the side was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious condition, police said. The other man, 28, was shot in the shoulder. He took himself to Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park, where he was treated and released, police said.

The weekend's first fatal shooting happened about 10 a.m. Friday in the Marquette Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

Rashad A. Abdullah, 26, was outside in the 7000 block of South Talman when two people walked up behind him and fired shots, authorities said.

Abdullah, who lived on the block where he was shot, was taken to Christ Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 11:10 a.m., authorities said.

The most recent nonfatal shooting happened Sunday night at a gas station in West Garfield Park.

About 11:10 p.m., a 28-year-old man was in a van at a gas station in the 600 block of South Independence when a male with a handgun walked up and ordered him out of the vehicle, police said.

The male went through the 28-year-old's pockets and took an undisclosed amount of cash before shooting him in the leg and driving off in his van, police said.

The man was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition had stabilized, police said.

About 9:30 p.m., a 24-year-old man walked into Provident Hospital of Cook County with a gunshot wound to the thigh and a graze wound to the torso, according to preliminary information from police.

He told investigators he was in the 5400 block of South Prairie when he heard gunfire and realized he had been shot. His condition was stabilized, police said.

About 2:15 p.m. Sunday, two boys were wounded in a Humboldt Park neighborhood shooting on the West Side.

The boys, ages 13 and 15, were in an alley in the 1000 block of North Harding when two unknown males walked out of a gangway and shot them, police said.

The 13-year-old was shot in the knee, while the older boy was shot in the buttocks, police said. They were both taken to Stroger Hospital, where their conditions had stabilized.

At least 16 other people have been wounded in shootings across the city since 10 a.m. Friday.
