Biker And Pedestrian Killed In Motorcycle Crash In Plainfield

UPDATE: 4:52 p.m.

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A motorcycle crash left two people dead early Tuesday in southwest suburban Plainfield.

Just after midnight, a motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed collided with a pedestrian near the intersection of Route 59 and Lockport Street in Plainfield.

The collision caused both men to lose their shoes.

The pedestrian, 56-year-old Randal Lambert of Plainfield, suffered massive injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The biker, 27-year-old Sean Fitzpatrick, was not wearing a helmet. He was taken to Provena St. Joseph Medical Center, in Joliet, where he was later pronounced dead.

It was not clear how fast the motorcycle was traveling at this time, but police said the crash scene indicated speed played a major role.

"Right now, our investigative unit is looking into every option of what could have possibly happened, but if you look at the scene, the motorcycle is quite a distance from the area of the impact," Plainfield Police Sgt. Mike Fisher said. "It's probably a good two blocks from the actual impact."
