Two Charged After Illegal Cache Of Weapons Discovered In Avalon Park Home

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A woman and a teenage boy are facing charges after a cache of illegal weapons was discovered in her Avalon Park neighborhood home on the South Side over the weekend.

Tina Lofton, 46, is charged with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and the 17-year-old boy faces eight felony counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by someone younger than 21 and one count of aggravated possession of stolen firearms, according to Chicago Police.

They were arrested about 10 p.m. Sunday after South Chicago District tactical officers conducted a search at Lofton's home in the 7800 block of South Kimbark, police said.

Police discovered a 9 mm handgun, a .380 pistol, a .40 caliber handgun, a .38 special, a .25 caliber, a submachine gun, and three more semi-automatic weapons.

Lofton was ordered held on a $100,000 bond Monday and is next scheduled to appear in court May 20.

The boy's name was not released because was charged as a minor.
