Ex-Cubs Reliever Kyle Farnsworth Is Still Tackling People

(CBS) During his time in Chicago, former Cubs reliever Kyle Farnsworth is perhaps best known for his tackling of Reds pitcher Paul Wilson in 2003 after the latter attempted to charge the mound on him. Farnsworth snapped into action quickly, going on the offensive and sticking Wilson to the ground with a tackle that would make the long line of legendary Bears linebackers proud.

Now 12 years later, Farnsworth is in a more formal business of tackling people after not latching on with an MLB team this spring. He's transitioned into a football career, according to the Tampa Bay Times, serving as a defensive lineman for the Orlando Phantoms of the Florida Football Alliance (which is, best as we can tell, a competitive league for adults who have athletic backgrounds and a love of the game but likely no future in it).

Making this story even more entertaining is that Farnsworth appears to be the team's best defensive player. He has a team-leading 41 tackles and 11 sacks through Week 12 as the Phantoms sit at 7-4. His sack total is second in the league.

Farnsworth is doing all of this at 39. He pitched in the big leagues in 2014, compiling in 4.40 ERA in time split between the Mets and Astros.

Apparently, the football endeavor has a lot to do with keeping the competitive juices flowing, for Farnsworth tweeted he's not giving up on his baseball career yet.

You just be you, Kyle. That's all we can ask for.
