Thursday Heat Could Match 1964 Record For Chicago
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Thursday could bring the kind of summery heat Chicago hasn't seen this time of year in more than five decades.
CBS 2 Meteorologist Megan Glaros said the forecast expects a high of about 86 degrees around 2 p.m. That's just shy of the May 7 record of 87 degrees, set in 1964, according to the National Weather Service. Temperature records for Chicago date back to 1871.
The normal high for May 7 in Chicago is 67 degrees.
Skies should be clear, and it should be dry and breezy all day, with a small chance of storms overnight, along with muggy conditions and a low of 66.
The 80s will return on Friday, but with showers and storms moving through in the afternoon and evening.
Rain will continue on and off throughout the entire weekend, and temperatures will cool off significantly, with a high of only about 71 on Saturday, and 64 on Sunday.
Conditions should dry out at the start of next week, though temperatures will remain mild, with a high of 70 on Monday, and the low 60s on Tuesday and Wednesday.
