Tigers Top White Sox, 4-1
CHICAGO (AP) — Kyle Lobstein pitched 7 2/3 strong innings, Miguel Cabrera scored twice and drove in a run and the Detroit Tigers earned a 4-1 victory on Thursday against the Chicago White Sox to salvage the finale of a three-game series.
Victor Martinez and Nick Castellanos each drove in a run and Detroit bounced back after blowing a 6-3 eighth-inning lead on Wednesday.
Avisail Garcia had an RBI single in the fourth inning for the White Sox.
Lobstein (3-2) allowed an unearned run and five hits to lower his ERA to 3.00.
Joakim Soria struck out all four batters he faced for his 11th save.
Chicago starter Jose Quintana (1-3) allowed two runs and four hits and had a season-high eight strikeouts. He left the game after five innings and 107 pitches.
The Tigers grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning with help from Cabrera's base running. The slugger was hit by a pitch with two outs and advanced to third on a single to right field by Martinez. Cabrera scored on a wild pitch with Yoenis Cespedes at the plate.
The White Sox tied it at 1 in the fourth. Melky Cabrera led off with a grounder to second base, but Ian Kinsler's throw pulled Miguel Cabrera off the bag and Melky Cabrera avoided the tag.
Detroit took a 2-1 lead in the fifth. With one out, Rajai Davis walked and Kinsler's singled. Davis stole third and then scored on a ground out by Cabrera.
The Tigers broke the game open with two runs on the eighth off reliever Dan Jennings. Martinez and Castellanos each had a RBI single in the inning.
TRAINER'S ROOM
Tigers: SS Jose Iglesias was not in the lineup because of a mild groin injury. "It might be a couple of days," manager Brad Ausmus said when asked for a timetable of the 25-year-old's return.
Iglesias apparently was injured in the eighth inning Wednesday night when he scored from second base on a single by Victor Martinez.
White Sox: RHP Nate Jones (right elbow) is scheduled to throw a side session Friday, but manager Robin Ventura said Jones is in trainer Herm Schneider's hands. "It's aways away," Ventura said. Jones underwent Tommy John surgery in July.

Tigers: They return home for a three-game series with the Kansas City Royals. LHP David Price (3-1, 2.93 ERA) faces RHP Yordano Ventura (2-2, 4.94 ERA) in the opener Friday night. In his previous start, Price allowed a run and five hits in a complete game victory over the Royals.
White Sox: RHP Hector Noesi (0-3, 6.75) will face Cincinnati RHP Jason Marquis (3-1, 5.22). Noesi has struggled, going 0-6 with a 5.40 ERA over his past eight starts.
