Business Burglaries Reported In Edgewater, Uptown

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police are warning businesses after cash registers and other items were stolen in a series of commercial burglaries in the North Side Uptown and Edgewater neighborhoods since April.

In the reported break-ins, one or more people have used a pry tool or blunt object to force entry to businesses through doors or windows, according to a business alert from Chicago police.

Items stolen have included cash, cash registers, cigarettes and batteries.

Nine burglaries have been reported:

In the 5000 block of North Sheridan at 3 a.m. on April 1;
In the 5300 block of North Broadway at 3 a.m. on April 2;
In the 5200 block of North Broadway at 3:15 a.m. on April 11;
In the 1600 block of West Foster at 3 a.m. on April 13;
In the 5400 block of North Broadway at 10:15 p.m. on April 17;
In the 5200 block of North Broadway at 3:45 a.m. on May 2;
In the 5800 block of North Broadway at midnight on May 3;
In the 5200 block of North Clark at 6:15 a.m. on May 5;
In the 5700 block of North Broadway at 1 a.m. on May 10.

One suspect in the break-ins is described as a bald black man between 35 and 45 years old, standing 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-9 and weighing 170 to 190 pounds, police said.
