Obese Beagle Drops A Whopping 20 Pounds, Looks For New Home

By John Dodge

CHICAGO (CBS) -- If there was a Biggest Loser, canine edition, Kale Chips the beagle would be the hero.

When Kale Chips was rescued in January, he weighed an astonishing 85 pounds.

He was so big that he had to be transported on a wagon, as he was unable to walk on his own.

Kale was "adopted" by One Tail At A Time Dog Rescue after the dog's elderly owner could no longer care for the pup.

Since then, Kale has dropped more than 20 pounds, adhering to a rigorous diet and exercise program, which includes swimming.

Now, One Tail At A Time is looking to place Kale Chips with an experienced owner to help him continue his weight loss journey.

Kale is believed to be seven to nine years old and has no medical issues, beyond the need to keep losing weight.

"Kale is a spirited, typical Beagle who is full of sass and Beagle howls," according to a post on the One Tail At A Time website. "He's super friendly with people, great with other dogs and likes to be outside. His stubborness comes out when he doesn't want to do something, so we would like to place him with an experienced owner who will give him boundaries without pushing him. He's a great dog and deserves only the best."

Email HeatherOTAT@gmail.com if interested in Kale Chips.

His adoption fee has been sponsored and he has been neutered, microchipped and vaccinated.
