1 Killed, 1 Injured In Shooting Outside Logan Square Store

CHICAGO (STMW) -- One man was killed and another injured in a gang-related shooting Wednesday night in the parking lot of a Logan Square neighborhood store on the Northwest Side.

Jonathan Garcia, 19; and a 33-year-old man got into a fight with two other people about 11:10 p.m. outside FoodSmart Urban Market at 2901 W. Armitage Ave. One of the suspects, a male of unknown age, pulled a gun and fired, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Garcia, of the 3300 block of West Palmer, was shot in the chest and died 30 minutes later at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, authorities said.

The 33-year-old man was shot in the shoulder and neck area, and was also taken to Illinois Masonic, where his condition has stabilized, police said.

A man who was in the store at the time, who did not want to be identified, reported hearing four shots.

"This was a gang-related shooting. A Latin Lover was shot and killed, and another gang member has been wounded," Ald. Joe Moreno said in a statement posted on his Facebook page Thursday morning.

"There is video footage and the police are investigating. They recovered a gun but the person that shot the victim got away," Moreno said.

"I will be working with the 14th District Police Department to organize a community meeting on the two recent shootings in our area in an attempt to improve our safety efforts."

A .38-caliber revolver was recovered at the scene, police said.

A police source confirmed that both men shot have documented gang ties.
