3 Dead, 10 Wounded In Shootings Across Chicago On Wednesday

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Three people were killed and at least 10 others were wounded in shootings Wednesday on the city's South and West sides.

Late Wednesday night, one man was killed and another man was injured in a shooting outside of a Logan Square neighborhood store on the Northwest Side, police said.

Jonathan Garcia, 19, and a 33-year-old man got into a fight with two other males about 11:10 p.m. outside FoodSmart Urban Market, 2901 W. Armitage Ave., when one male pulled out a gun and fired shots, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Garcia, of the 3300 block of West Palmer, was shot in the chest and was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead less than 30 minutes later, authorities said.

The 33-year-old man was shot in the shoulder and neck area, and was also taken to Illinois Masonic, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

A .38-caliber revolver was recovered at the scene.

A police source said both men shot have documented gang ties.

Earlier Wednesday, two men were killed and a third was critically wounded in a shooting in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side, police said.

About 8 p.m., the three 19-year-old men were in a vehicle in the 200 block of West 107th Street when another vehicle pulled alongside and someone inside opened fire, police said.

Shamari Salter, of the 0 – 100 block of East 100th Place, was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene at 8:08 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Terrance Canady, of the 11300 block of South Stewart, was shot in the head and abdomen and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, authorities said. He was pronounced dead at 11:22 p.m., the medical examiner's office said.

The third man was shot in the chest and was also taken to Christ Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition, police said.

The most recent nonfatal shooting happened about 11:35 p.m. in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

A 31-year-old woman was shot in the left foot in the 6200 block of South Whipple, police said.

She was shot by a male during a domestic fight, police said, but additional details were not available. The woman drove herself to Holy Cross Hospital, where her condition was stabilized.

About 10 minutes earlier, a man showed up at a West Side hospital with a gunshot wound after being shot in the Little Village neighborhood.

The 18-year-old was walking on the sidewalk in the 3600 block of West 27th Street when he heard shots and realized he was hit, police said. He walked into Mount Sinai Hospital about 11:25 p.m. with a gunshot wound to the right foot, police said. His condition was stabilized.

At 6:13 p.m., a man was shot in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side.

The 25-year-old man was driving eastbound in the alley in the 4900 block of West Superior when someone standing in a group of males nearby opened fire, police said. He was shot in the shoulder and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in good condition.

Earlier Wednesday afternoon, a 16-year-old boy was shot in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood.

The teen was on a porch about 4:35 p.m. in the 7100 block of South California when a male, dressed in all black, walked out of a nearby gangway and opened fire, police said. The shooter then ran off.

The teen was shot in the right leg and taken to Christ Medical Center in good condition, police said.

About 1 p.m., two men were shot in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side.

The shooting happened in the 7900 block of South Langley, police said.

One of the men, 22, was shot in the buttocks and listed in good condition at Stroger Hospital. The other man, whose age was unavailable, suffered a graze wound, and refused medical treatment, police said.

Wednesday morning, a man and woman were shot in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side.

The two were inside a vehicle in the 1900 block of West 73rd Street at 10:40 a.m. when a red truck pulled up beside them and someone fired shots, police said.

The 25-year-old woman was shot in the left shoulder and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said. The man, also 25, was shot in the left bicep and taken to Holy Cross Hospital. Both were listed in good condition.
