1 Dead, 13 Wounded In Thursday Shootings
CHICAGO (STMW) -- One man was killed and at least 13 other people were injured in shootings Thursday across Chicago.
The fatal shooting happened Thursday morning in the South Chicago neighborhood.
Ramon Gartman, 33, was discovered unresponsive in the 8400 block of South Commercial at 11:48 a.m. with a gunshot wound to his face, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Gartman, of the 7600 block of South Kingston, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:12 p.m., the medical examiner's office said.
Thursday's last shooting occurred in the Bridgeport neighborhood on the South Side, leaving two men wounded.
The two, ages 22 and 19, were found shot in an alley in the 1300 block of West 31st Street about 11:30 p.m., police said.
Both men were taken to Stroger Hospital. The 22-year-old was shot in the head and is listed in critical condition, police said. The other man was shot in the abdomen. His condition had stabilized.
The shooting was narcotics-related, according to a police source.
A woman who has lived on the block for several years and wished to remain anonymous said the six rapid-fire gunshots she heard are not normal for the area.
"I have grandchildren and we sit out here every night in the summer and we've never seen anything like this," she said.
About 30 minutes earlier, a man was shot in the West Pullman neighborhood on the Far South Side.
The 30-year-old was walking on the sidewalk in the 12100 block of South Parnell about 11 p.m. when he heard gunfire and realized he'd been shot in the left buttocks, police said. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition was stabilized. A police source said the man is a documented gang member.
About 10:20 p.m., a 20-year-old man was shot in the Albany Park neighborhood on the North Side.
He was walking in an alley with another male in the 3100 block of West Lawrence about 10:20 p.m. when an occupant in a black SUV opened fire, police said. The man was shot in the lower back and was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized.
About 9:30 p.m. a man was shot in the South Chicago neighborhood.
The 20-year-old was walking in the 8000 block of South Brandon when another male shot him in the lower left leg, police said.
The man took himself to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, where his condition had stabilized, police said.
The man was being uncooperative with police and additional details were not available.
About 7:30 p.m., a man was injured in a Woodlawn neighborhood shooting on the South Side.
The 56-year-old was shot in the foot in the 6700 block of South Champlain, police said. He was taken to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center, where his condition had stabilized.
About 5:45 p.m., a man was shot in the Archer Heights neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
The 22-year-old was a passenger in a vehicle in the 4700 block of South Karlov when he was shot in the leg, police said. The driver took him to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition has stabilized.
About 15 minutes earlier, a man was shot in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side.
The man, 27, was standing outside about 5:30 p.m. in the 6900 block of South Paulina when someone walked up and opened fire, police said. He was shot in both legs and was taken to Christ Medical Center, where his condition has stabilized. A police source said the man was not being cooperative with investigators.
About 4:50 p.m., a man was shot in the South Side Chatham neighborhood.
The 24-year-old was sitting outside in the 700 block of East 90th Place, when a male walked up and fired shots, striking him in the back, police said. He was taken to Christ Medical Center, where his condition has stabilized.
Earlier Thursday afternoon, a man was shot in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side.
The 18-year-old was shot in the back in the 7800 block of South Michigan about 2:30 p.m., police said. He was taken in good condition to Stroger Hospital.
Thursday morning, one person was critically injured in a shooting in the South Chicago neighborhood.
The shooting happened in the 8400 block of South Commercial at 11:48 a.m., police said. The victim, a male of unknown age, was shot in the face and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition.
About 4:50 a.m., a man was shot while riding in a vehicle on the Bishop Ford Freeway on the South Side after getting into an argument downtown.
The shooting happened on the Stony Island ramp of the Bishop Ford at 103rd Street, according to Illinois State Police.
Three people had been involved in an argument with at least one other person somewhere downtown, and that person followed them in a vehicle down the expressway to the ramp, where the suspect began firing at their vehicle, state police said.
Three people were inside the vehicle — a 26-year-old man, a 21-year-old man, and a 20-year-old woman — and they drove to a nearby police station. The 26-year-old man was shot and taken to Christ Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. The suspect drove off and exited the expressway.
About 1:15 a.m., a man was shot and critically wounded inside a Grand Crossing apartment building on the South Side.
The 57-year-old man was inside a first-floor apartment in the 1400 block of East 69th Street when shots were fired from the hallway and he was hit in the right leg, police said. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition.
Thursday's first shooting happened about 12:30 a.m. during a robbery on the South Side.
A 22-year-old man was walking near 79th and Exchange when three males approached him and one of them produced a gun, police said. He was shot in the right knee, and the attackers took his backpack and an undisclosed amount of cash.
The man was taken to Jackson Park Hospital, where his condition has stabilized, police said.
