Illinois Makes More Pot Arrests Than Any Other State: Analysis

CHICAGO (CBS) -- While Illinois ranks nowhere near the top in terms of the number of marijuana users, the state makes more arrests, per capita, than any other state.

According to an analysis by Addiction Treatment, Illinois has logged more than 30,000 arrests per 100,000 pot users.

That is by far the most of any other state in the country.

Smoking weed is also not nearly has popular here, especially compared with states like Colorado and Montana.

State lawmakers this week approved legislation that would make decriminalize some marijuana possession in Illinois. A person found with less than 15 grams would be fined up to $125, but not face criminal charges. The law also eases the criminal penalties for possession between 15 and 100 grams.

New England makes few arrests for marijuana, which Addiction Treatment explains in this link.
