Woman Attacked In Oak Park Home Invasion

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Oak Park police were hunting for a man who carried out a violent home invasion Thursday night, when the attacker forced his way inside a home on one of Oak Park's busiest streets.

Police were called to the scene at Oak Park Avenue and Lexington Street around 6 p.m. Thursday,

Sources said a 27-year-old Chicago woman had visited a home in the 1000 block of South Oak Park Avenue to walk a dog, and once she got inside, the doorbell rang. When she answered it, a man forced his way inside, and tied her up at gunpoint, then attempted to rape her.

Oak Park police confirmed the woman was able to free herself, and call 911. Her attacker was last seen walking out the front door, after taking about $25 in cash. Sources said the home is owned by an elderly woman. It was not clear if she was home at the time of the attack.

Neighbors were rattled after learning of the attack.

"It's a little nerve-wracking to know I live right down the street, and this happened. So, yeah, definitely double-locking my doors," neighbor Casey Tencate said.

Paramedics took the victim to a hospital. She was treated and released Thursday night.

Police were checking surveillance camera footage from a nearby CTA train station, and several businesses in the area for clues about the attacker.
