New Naperville Mayor Looking To Take Pressure Off Of Property Tax Payers

(CBS) -- The new mayor of Naperville wants to restore some balance as far as property taxes go in the state's fourth largest city, reports WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore.

Naperville Mayor Steve Chirico says the city is strong and well-managed. He also thinks the state's fourth largest city has balanced it's development fairly well. But the businessman believes things could be better.

"Through decades of growth, residential growth, the business side of it did not keep up and so I think as a result there's been a little bit more pressure on our property taxes then I would like to see and so one of my goals as a mayor is to try to rebalance that and have our revenue source be a little bit more weighted to the business side of it so that we can take this property tax pressure off."

And easing the pressure on property taxes would be in keeping with Governor Rauner's goals too, but Chirico doesn't support the governor's efforts to limit or weaken organized labor.

Chirico is the guest on our "At Issue" program this weekend. You can download the full episode here.
