Ray McDonald Accused Of Breaking Down Door, Trying To Take Infant In Emergency Audio Recordings

(CBS) —Recently released Bears defensive lineman Ray McDonald is accused of breaking down a door and trying to take his child from the mother in an early Monday morning incident in Santa Clara that led to his arrest on suspicion of assaulting a woman, according to new police dispatch audio acquired by the San Jose Mercury News.

It was the third case accusing McDonald of violence toward a woman since last August, and the Bears cut him Monday afternoon, saying that while they believe in second chances he didn't live up to their expectations.

On Tuesday, a partial recording released by the California Highway Patrol had a 911 caller -- identifying herself as the mother of the alleged victim -- saying McDonald was drunk upon his arrival. He was arrested at another residence.

On Wednesday, the Mercury News acquired more complete audio. Here are some of the latest details:

The 3:48 a.m. emergency call, which was relayed to Santa Clara police, also alleged that when the woman tried to barricade herself in a bedroom with the infant she had with McDonald, the 6-foot-3, 290-pound defense lineman "broke down" the door and tried to take the baby from her before leaving, by himself, in a car

"She said she received a call from her daughter ... advising that her boyfriend Ray McDonald was being violent," the dispatcher said. "She tried to lock herself in her bedroom but he broke the door down ... Ex is trying to leave now with her infant."

The Bears signed McDonald to an incentive-laden one-year deal in March after he impressed them in conversations after chairman George McCaskey initially wasn't interested in signing the troubled player. The 49ers cut McDonald last December, citing a pattern of bad behavior.
