Seven Injured In Shootings Across Chicago Since Tuesday Morning
CHICAGO (STMW) -- At least seven people, including a 14-year-old boy, were injured in shootings across Chicago in about 12 hours Tuesday, police said.
The most recent shooting happened about 11:40 p.m. in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
A 14-year-old boy was outside in the 2200 block of South Central Park Avenue when an SUV drove past and someone inside fired shots in his direction, police said. He was shot in the upper back and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
About an hour earlier, a man was shot during an attempted robbery in the Dunning neighborhood on the Northwest Side.
The man, 27, was sitting in a car with a female about 10:40 p.m. in the alley in the 7400 block of West Irving Park Road Road when two males walked up and announced a robbery, police said.
Then one of the males fired a shot, striking the man in the right leg, police said. The pair ran off, but nothing was stolen. The man was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where his condition was stabilized, police said. The female was not injured.
Twenty minutes earlier, a woman was shot in the head in the McKinley Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
About 10:20 p.m., officers responding to a call of shots fired in the 3700 block of South Wolcott Avenue saw a vehicle speeding away from the area and a pursuit ensued, police said.
A 61-year-old woman had been shot in the head in the 3600 block of South Honore Street, police said. She was taken to Stroger Hospital, were her condition was stabilized.
The vehicle sped into the outbound lanes of the Stevenson Expressway (I-55) and Chicago Police chased it until the vehicle crashed at the I-294 northbound ramp near Hodgkins, police said.
As of early Wednesday, Area Central detectives were questioning a male suspect who was involved in the crash, police said.
Tuesday afternoon, a man was shot in the South Loop.
The 24-year-old was in the 2100 block of South Wabash Avenue about 3:15 p.m. when he was shot in the shoulder, police said. He made it on his own to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, but was transferred to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital, police said. His condition has stabilized.
Less than an hour earlier, a teenage boy and a man were wounded in a shooting in the South Side Marquette Park neighborhood.
The 16-year-old and a 22-year-old were walking in the 7000 block of South Talman Avenue about 2:40 p.m. when an SUV pulled up next to them and someone inside opened fire, police said.
The teen was shot in the chest and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition, police said. The man was shot in the leg and was also taken to Christ Medical Center, where his condition stabilized.
Tuesday morning, a man with a gunshot wound walked into St. Bernard Hospital in the South Side Englewood neighborhood.
Chicago Police were called at 11:10 a.m. about the shooting victim, a 21-year-old man who walked into the hospital in the 300 block of West 64th Street with a gunshot wound to the calf, police said.
The man told police he was shot in the 6400 block of South Halsted Street, but no further information was immediately available.
