Man Charged With Gunning Down Humboldt Park Father In 2014

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man has been charged with the fatal shooting a man just a week after his son was fatally shot last year in the Northwest Side Humboldt Park neighborhood.

Kortillious Gipson, 23, is charged with first-degree murder for the death of 34-year-old Sam Walker on July 31, 2014, according to Chicago Police.

Gipson allegedly chased Walker down and shot him to death in the 4100 block of West Crystal at 9:25 a.m., authorities said.

Walker was shot in the torso and head, and pronounced dead on the scene, authorities said. Police said Walker had gang affiliations.

Gipson, of the 1100 block of North Kedvale, is scheduled to appear in bond court Thursday.

Walker was the father of 13-year-old Samuel Walker, who was shot to death a week before his father when someone opened fire on a group in the 700 block of South California Avenue, according to police.

Six other people, including two other teenage boys, were wounded in the 6 p.m. shooting on July 25, 2014, near where a church group was holding a gathering for youth to pray and play games.

The teen was shot in the head and died at the scene, the medical examiner's office said.

No one has been charged in connection with Samuel Walker's death.
