Family Of Murdered Father Passes Out Flyers Hoping For Information On Killer

(CBS) -- Friends and family members of a murdered Bronzeville man handed out more than 1,200 flyers Saturday in the neighborhood in which he was murdered.

Chicago Police have had little to go on in the murder last Oct. 6 of 37-year-old Torrance Pickens, who was shot three times while sitting in the driver's seat of his Range Rover, on the 100 block of East 44th Street.

Angel Wallace was engaged to Pickens, who had five children of his own and two foster children. She said the killer robbed them of a good father.

"He was helpful. He was very friendly. He took care of his kids. He was a family man," Wallace said. "He was just outgoing, and he was there for us."

Carrying red, white and black balloons, with many in special T-shirts, they ignored light rain and falling temperatures, and canvassed the blocks immediately surrounding the murder scene, handing out flyers and asking for any information the neighbors could provide. Cook County Crimestoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to a conviction.

Crimestoppers' George McDade said the murder left the family with no provider, forcing Pickens' 21-year-old daughter Shanese into the role.

She pleaded with the killer to turn himself in.

"Our family is really hurting," Pickens said. "When we have daughter and dad days at school, we don't have anyone to turn to...he took the only thing that we knew."
