After The Bell: Stocks Kick Off June On A Good Note

By Andy Giersher

(CBS) -- Stocks moved higher on Monday, the first trading day of June, as traders took a positive spin on mixed economic data.

"A lot of stuff is out there right over the horizon and if you get the right catalyst, I think the buying mood is going to continue," said Mike Larson, Interest Rate and Real Estate Analyst at Money and Markets in Jupiter, Florida.

He also noted that he thinks traders are waiting for more clarity in data before they get too aggressive.

All three major indices posted gains for the session, shrugging off earlier losses. The NASDAQ added 13, the S&P 500 rose 4 and the Dow Jones industrial average closed 30 points higher, settling to 18,040.

"If we can get some descent economic news going forward, then we could have a decent summer for the stock market," said Larson.
