Medical Students Pay Tribute To Body Donors
Medical Students Thank Body Donors
(CBS) -- Students at Northwestern's Feinberg School of Medicine gathered on Monday afternoon on Chicago's near North Side to thank the families and friends of those who donated their bodies for medical study.
Medical students read the names of those who donated their bodies for study while gentle music played and flowers, each representing a life, were presented.
Bridget Brown was there for her father who died last August.
"It was incredibly touching, very heartwarming. It definitely brought closure to not only myself but my husband and my aunts and uncles. All of us feel that we know he made an impact," Brown said.
Donald Tischler's wife died last year.
"I feel good about it," he said about attending Monday's ceremony. "It's a relief."
Noelle Martinez is one of the medical students. Her own father died just a year ago and donated his body for research.
"I think he was really proud of me and he knew that his illness led me to this field," Martinez said.
The families say they're thankful their loved ones are not forgotten. The medicals students say the gifts will make them better doctors in the years to come.
