CPS Expands Summer Safe Haven Program
(CBS) -- A program designed to keep Chicago kids out of harm's way over the summer is expanding, reports WBBM's Nancy Harty.
An additional 20 churches will be hosting Chicago Public School students as part of the city's Safe Haven program.
Organizers say that brings the total 120 places of worship that will welcome up to 7,500 kids for breakfast, lunch and various activities.

"It's not just a babysitting program, it is a program that continues the learning over the summer," said Reynaldo Kyles, director of faith-based initiatives for CPS.
Kyles says the program has a strong track record since it started over winter break 2009.
"We haven't had a student that participated in the program has become a victim nor a perpetrator of a crime."
