Rangers Beat White Sox 2-1 In 11 Innings
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Shin-Soo Choo's single beat the Chicago White Sox and their defensive shift, sending the Texas Rangers to a 2-1 win in 11 innings on Thursday night.
Leonys Martin led off the inning with his third single and moved to second on Hanser Alberto's sacrifice. Choo grounded the ball to the right of Chicago shortstop Alexei Ramirez, who was shifted toward second base.
Dan Jennings (1-2) was the losing pitcher. The win went to Tanner Scheppers (2-0).
White Sox rookie left-hander Carlos Rodon struck out a career-high 10 batters in six innings. He allowed one run, five hits and three walks.
Texas starter Yovani Gallardo gave up three hits, two walks and an unearned run in his six innings.
Rangers rookie Joey Gallo didn't hit a home run after blasting one in each of his first two major league games. He had a single and an intentional walk in four at-bats, and struck out twice.
He also had his troubles in the field. On the first two major league grounders hit to him at third base, he committed two of Texas' four errors.
Delino DeShields and Price Fielder had two hits apiece for the Rangers. Adam Eaton singled twice for the White Sox.
DeShields led off the bottom of the first inning with a double, and scored on Fielder's ground single to center field.
In the fourth, Chicago's Avisail Garcia reached base on Gallo's throwing error, went to third on Alexei Ramirez's single and scored on a sacrifice fly by Gordon Beckham.
