Four Charged In Canaryville Double-Stabbing

(STMW) -- Four people have been charged with stabbing a man and a woman last week in a South Side Canaryville neighborhood park.

Courtney Vega, 19, Joya Urbikas, 18, David Rice, 21, and Kevin Hoynes, 21, were each charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder; two counts of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm; two counts of aggravated battery using a deadly weapon; and one count of mob action using force on two people, according to Chicago Police. All the charges are felonies.

At 3:17 a.m. May 30, a 26-year-old man and 30-year-old woman were in a park in the 700 block of West 41st Street when a group of people walked up and started fighting with them, police said. During the fight, the group beat and stabbed the pair, police said.

Someone in the group pulled out a knife and stabbed the two, police said.

The man and woman were taken to Stroger Hospital and have been treated, police said. The man, who was stabbed several times, was initially listed in critical condition, while the woman was in fair condition, police said.

Vega, Urbikas, Rice and Hoynes are scheduled to appear in bond court on Sunday.
