Man Suspected Of Killing Girlfriend Arrested In Minnesota

(STMW) -- A 33-year-old man suspected of killing his girlfriend at a northwest Indiana motel was arrested in Minnesota on Sunday after his mother contacted police.

The suspect and his girlfriend, 38-year-old Shannon Morrison, were visiting Hammond, Ind., from St. Paul, Minn., over the weekend for a graduation party, according to the Lake County coroner's office and Hammond police.

The man's mother called Hammond police about 10:15 p.m. Saturday, saying the suspect had called her from the Super 8 motel at 4111 Calumet Ave. and asked her to buy him a bus ticket back to Minnesota, Hammond Police Lt. Richard Hoyda said.

Investigators found Morrison dead at the motel, Hoyda said. Authorities have not said how she died, but her death was ruled a homicide.

The suspect was arrested in St. Paul and is being held there until criminal charges are filed in Indiana, police said.
