Customers Sick After Eating At Suburban Restaurant

ELGIN (CBS) -- More than a dozen diners say they got sick after eating at a suburban restaurant.

According to the Kane County Health Department, at least 17 people complained they got sick after eating at the Grumpy Goat Tavern in Elgin.

The possible food poisoning stems from a Saturday golf outing at the Highlands of Elgin.

Inspectors with the Elgin health department were notified, and they came by earlier this week to investigate.

They didn't find any contamination at the restaurant and gave it a clean bill of health.

The patrons who complained said they suffered from gastrointestinal issues after eating at the buffet.

Tom Schlueter, of the Kane County Health Department, says investigators are trying to determine if there is a link between what patrons ate and their illness.

"Sometimes food gets spoiled food or bacteria gets in there," he said. "That's in general. I'm not saying it happened here in this case."

The restaurant is still open for business, and health officials said people shouldn't be afraid to eat here.

Grumpy Goat owner Greg Shannon says no one called him to complain, and he's waiting for the investigation to be complete.
