Eight Wounded In Thursday Shootings
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Eight people, including a 15-year-old boy, were shot Thursday on the South, West and Southwest sides.
The most recent shooting happened Thursday night, after a teen who took himself to a hospital told investigators he was shot in the South Side Chatham neighborhood.
The 17-year-old told investigators he was shot in the leg in the 400 block of East 84th Street, police said, citing preliminary information. He took himself to Provident Hospital at 9:55 p.m., police said. His condition was unknown late Thursday.
About two hours earlier, a man was shot in the West Side Austin neighborhood.
The 23-year-old was outside in the 1000 block of North Lawler when he heard gunshots and felt pain, police said. He was shot in the buttocks and arm and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
About 45 minutes earlier on the West Side, a 15-year-old boy was grazed in the head by a bullet in the North Lawndale neighborhood.
The teen was standing on a sidewalk in the 1300 block of South St. Louis when he heard gunshots and felt pain, police said. He then fled a block north, where police found him. He was taken in good condition to Mount Sinai Hospital.
Another teenager was wounded in a Southwest Side shooting in the Ashburn neighborhood at 5:30 p.m.
The 17-year-old was in the 7800 block of South Trumbull when someone fired shots from a passing red sedan, police said. He was shot in the left hand and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in good condition. A source said the teen is a documented gang member.
A McKinley Park shooting, also on the Southwest Side, left a man critically wounded about 3:50 p.m.
The 26-year-old was walking down the street in the 3500 block of South Western Avenue when a male got out of a black car and fired shots, striking the man in the head and neck. The car then drove off east on 35th Street.
The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.
Twenty minutes earlier, a man was shot in the Woodlawn neighborhood on the South Side.
The 25-year-old was in the 800 block of East 65th Street when someone in a passing white SUV shot at him, striking him in the right calf, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in fair condition.
The victim is a documented gang member, a source said.
Thursday's first shooting happened overnight in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side, leaving two men wounded.
The men, ages 34 and 36, were sitting outside about 12:30 a.m. in the 2900 block of West 63rd Street when they heard shots and felt pain, police said.
The younger man was shot in the hip and the older in the shoulder, police said. They were taken to Christ Medical Center, where their conditions stabilized, police said.
