Robbery Of West Town Specialty Store Caught On Camera

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two thieves made off with several thousand dollars' worth of goods from a West Town specialty store in a bold robbery Friday afternoon.

CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot reports the robbery at the MADE Gallery in the 1400 block of West Chicago Avenue was captured on surveillance video.

The video shows a man pull out a gun, chamber a round as if to put a bullet in the gun.

Owner Chriz Masurek says the man told the employee, "Do you know what this is? This is a gun, you know…and a robbery."

The man grabs a large wad of cash from the employee. A person with the man then begins filling a bag with merchandise.

MADE Gallery specializes in hand-blown glass, high end jewelry, apparel and vintage sneakers. Mazurek says Friday's early evening robbery, was extremely bold.

"Clearly it was crazy just because of the fact it was 6:30 p.m. our streets were full of people, there was plenty people out," Mazurek said. "It was pretty brazen."

In all, the two young men got away with two baby blue Grassroots hats, only sold at MADE Gallery, spoiled hoodies and two Nike vintage pairs of sneakers: a Jordan SB1 valued at $300 and a Barkley eggplant foam posite, costing $350. Both pairs are a size 8. The total take? About $3,000.

Mazurek says he is happy his employees are safe.

"I'm really proud of my employees because they know what to do," he said. "Especially when a weapon is involved, especially a gun, the last thing you want at all is anything further or any violence whatsoever."

The owner says surveillance video shows one of the robbers in the store the day before. .
