Man Charged With Fatally Shooting Teen, Wounding Another In Bronzeville
(STMW) -- A South Shore man has been charged with shooting two teenage boys—one of them fatally—over Memorial Day Weekend in Bronzeville.
Arieus Fitch, 20, faces a first-degree murder charge for the attack that happened about 8:20 p.m. on May 24 in the 4400 block of South Cottage Grove, Chicago Police announced Sunday morning.
The boys, ages 14 and 15, were outside when someone fired shots from a light-colored sedan, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.
The older boy, later identified as Raheem Dameron, was dead at the scene with gunshot wounds to the back, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office. Dameron lived in the 5600 block of South Justine, authorities said.
The younger boy was shot in the ankle and taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where his condition stabilized, police said.
Police said at the time that the shooting may have been gang-related, but did not release additional information Sunday on how Fitch was linked to the killing.
Fitch, of the 6900 block of South Paxton, is scheduled to appear in bond court Sunday afternoon.
The two boys were among 12 people killed and at least 43 others wounded during a bloody Memorial Day weekend in Chicago.
