(CBS) -- A Northwest Side Church is leading a petition drive asking Governor Rauner to reconsider proposed funding cuts.

Pastor Ray Berryhill of Resurrected Life Church Center wants to send a message to the governor.

After a conference call with area pastors, he's sending a petition to 1,000 churches across the city.

Resurrected Life spokesperson Sean Howard says Rauner's proposed cuts will affect the poor more than anyone else.

Howard says Pastor Berryhill and area pastors will deliver the petition to Rauner's office on June 25.

Governor Rauner has proposed funding cuts to various services across the state if a budget deal is not reached by the end of the month.

A spokeswoman for Governor Rauner issued a statement in response saying, "Difficult decisions have to be made because Mike Madigan and the legislators he controls passed a budget with a $4 billion hole while refusing any real reforms to increase jobs or make government more effective for the people it serves. Sadly, Mike Madigan and the legislators he controls are more interested in protecting the political class than the middle class and those who need our help."
