Dozens Of Blackhawks Fans Overcome By Heat At Parade, Rally

CHICAGO (CBS) -- With hordes of Blackhawks fans packing downtown streets and Soldier Field to celebrate the Stanley Cup champions amid temperatures in the upper 70s, dozens ended up needing medical attention due to the combination of crowds and heat.

A Fire Department spokesperson said 41 people had been treated along the parade route after suffering from heat exhaustion due to the temperatures, humidity and close quarters.

While some needed to be taken to the hospital, some just needed to cool off a bit and were going back into the crowds after rehydrating.

Security officials at Soldier Field also told CBS 2 about 20 people at the stadium were treated or taken to the hospital for heat exhaustion.

Temperatures approached 80 degrees by the early afternoon, with humidity levels of 82 percent or higher.
