After Weather Delay, Show To Go On For Mumford & Sons

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two days later than originally planned, British rockers Mumford & Sons were ready to perform at Montrose Beach on Friday, and some tickets are now available to their previously sold-out show.

The band was forced to postpone its Wednesday concert after heavy rains on Monday left the ground at Cricket Hill along Montrose Beach so soggy, crews could not get the stage set up in time.

Fresh off a headlining performance at Bonnaroo in Tennessee, the Grammy winning band was set to play Friday night along the lakefront, now that construction of the stage has been completed.

The postponement also freed up some $65 tickets, from fans who took advantage of refunds. Tickets can be purchased here. https://www.etix.com/ticket/p/7718422/mumford-sons-chicago-cricket-hill-at-montrose-beach-park-chicagoil

Some neighbors had expressed concerns about noise from the show, after a flurry of complaints about the Wavefront Music Festival at Montrose Beach in 2012 and 2013, but organizers came up with a simple solution. The amplifiers for the Mumford & Sons concert will be aimed toward the lake, rather than toward the city.

Fans of the band are simply happy the show will go on, after a disappointing delay due to the weather.

"We were extremely upset, because we were here, first in line, and we were wondering when they would reschedule it, and if we would be in town, but luckily we're here today," Emily Leontyev said.

Alex Horvath said, at first, they thought it was a joke when someone told them Wednesday's performance had been postponed.

"A guy came out, and he said it was canceled, so we thought he's just trying to get us out of line so he can be first; and then we all kind of sat there in disbelief for about a half hour," he said.

The band stopped by Montrose Beach on Wednesday to apologize to fans in person. Leontyev had frontman Marcus Mumford autograph her shorts, which she'll wear to Friday night's show. So, in her view, the postponement was all worth it.
