Cubs Fan Describes Catching Foul Ball With One Hand And Holding Baby In Other

CHICAGO (CBS) -- It's the catch at a Cubs game everyone's talking about. Not by a player, but by a fan without a glove all while feeding his baby!

Some people think Keith Hartley looked cool making the catch without breaking stride. Others had less kind words for him.

CBS 2's Marissa Bailey caught up with Keith himself today to get his take.

Last-minute free tickets to the Cubs game Tuesday meant no babysitter available for 7-month-old Isaac.

Keith Hartley took his wife, son and two clients to the game, but had no idea his seats were in the front row.

"I had my two buddies to my left -- closest to home plate... me and then Kari my wife and Isaac so we could protect her if a fast foul ball came our way," he said.

And in the second inning, it did.
"The whole time I'm looking up at the ball and I don't even see Adrian Gonzalez coming for the ball until the last second where it's my hand here and there he is," Hartley said. "I've been asked a lot what were you thinking? I didn't have four minutes to decide my options.

"Knowing that the ball was heading for Isaac -- I didn't want it to hit him or bounce of something and hit him and I totally trust my husband," Kari said. "I knew that he would have a good grip on Isaac. Kari said.

And to the people who say Keith put his first-born in harm's way, he says "People are have their opinions and they are entitles to them and being a parent I always put his safety and well regard first above everything else and he was safe and I did what I thought was best which is all you can ask from any Dad."

Hartley says he made Sportcenter's number one play on the top 10 list last night, checking off a box on his bucket list.

He's calling himself the anti-Steve Bartman, saying he has a baby and he actually caught the ball.

Cubs manager Joe Maddon called it "the play of the night."
