North Side Business Tries To Shame Tipsy Plant Thief

Plant Thief Shamed

(CBS) – It's not exactly the crime of the century.  In fact, getting several flowering plants stolen from a North Side business didn't even prompt the owners to call police.

But now they are trying to shame the thief, as WBBM's Steve Miller reports.

As you approach the front door of City Service Taxi at Peterson and Rockwell, you see the front windows are plastered with security camera stills of a woman who stole some flowering plants from outside.

Lynnette Samaniego is the manager of the company, whose security cameras caught the thief in action.

She suspects the woman was intoxicated. That would also account for her losing her balance as she tugged at a plant.

"It was actually funny," Samaniego says.

She says the theft happened a month ago.  She doesn't expect the thief will be caught.

"The whole point is really just to shame her.  If anything, (to say), 'Hey, don't do it. Somebody watched you. Somebody saw you.'"
