Incoming Storms Prompt Flash Flood Watch South Of I-80
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Storms could bring heavy rain, and the potential for flooding, to far southern stretches of the Chicago area Wednesday afternoon and evening.
A large storm system heading northeast from Missouri will mostly stay to the south of the Chicago area, but could bring steady heavy rainfall to suburbs and parts of northwest Indiana south of I-80, while only grazing areas north of that.
Those storms are more likely in the latter half of the afternoon and early evening, after sunset, before shifting east late Wednesday night. One to two inches of rain are possible, with higher amounts in some spots.
Kankakee County in Illinois; and Benton, Newton and Jasper counties in Indiana have been put under a flash flood watch until early Thursday morning.
The National Weather Service said anyone living along rivers, streams, and creeks should keep a clse eye on water levels if they get heavy rain. Flooded streets are also a possibility, as heavy downpours could overwhelm sewer systems.
