Four In Custody After Armed Suspects Point Guns At Aurora Police

(STMW) -- Four people were taken into custody Saturday night after armed suspects raised guns toward Aurora police, prompting an officer to fire shots before a foot chase ensued in the western suburb.

About 7:20 p.m., two officers on patrol saw the four people in a suspicious vehicle driving near the 1000 block of Pearl Street, according to a statement from Aurora police.

At some point, two people exited the vehicle and were walking between houses near Pearl Street and Parker Avenue, police said. As the officers approached, they saw that both people were in possession of handguns.

When the officers got out of their vehicle and attempted to make contact with the pair, both suspects raised their handguns and pointed them at the officers, police said. One officer then discharged his weapon at the suspects.

Both of the suspects then ran away and the officers gave chase, police said. One person was taken into custody nearby a short time later.

The other suspect was apprehended with the help of the Kane County Sheriff's police K-9 unit and was taken to a hospital after he suffered a dog bite to his arm, police said. Neither suspect was injured in the shooting.

Both of the suspects' handguns were recovered and the vehicle, still containing the other two occupants, was stopped nearby, police said. Those two individuals were also taken into custody.
