Friend Helps Save 15-Year-Old Girl From Abduction Attempt In Avondale

(CBS) -- A 15-year-old girl from the northwest side Avondale neighborhood owes thanks to a teenaged male friend who saved her from a would-be abductor.

The two were walking together about 7:20 a.m. Monday when a man in his 20s grabbed the girl and dragged her toward a parked white van that had its rear doors open.

Police said the teenaged boy grabbed the girl's legs and started yelling until the would-be abductor gave up and drove off, but not before he grabbed items the girl had been carrying.

The suspect is said to be Hispanic, between 5-feet-9 and 6-feet-2, weighs about 200 pounds, is clean shaven and has dark curly hair. At the time, he wore a black and white Adidas jacket and black construction boots.

The white work van had no side windows and a large dent on the front passenger side, police said.

Area North police detectives are investigating.
