More Rabid Bats Found In Homer Glen Home

(CBS) -- The Will County Health Department says more rabid bats have been found in the garage attic of a house in Homer Glen, reports WBBM's Mike Krauser.

Five more bats were discovered in the home on Little Creek Drive in recent days, bringing the total number found so far to seven. Six of the seven tested positive for rabies.

The first was found on July 6 when it fell from the attic onto the garage floor and was trapped by a resident using a bucket.

Authorities believe they have removed all of the bats at this point. A camera used to look around the attic found only dead bats.

Residents of the home are being given post-exposure rabies treatments and there is concern not only for human exposure but exposure to unvaccinated pets in the area as well. There are none in the home.
An expert has been bat-proofing the attic making sure there are no entry or exit points for the bats and as of yesterday, it was thought the problem was solved.
