Residents Of River North Building On Edge After Building Hit With Bullets

(CBS) -- Someone is taking shots at a high-rise in River North. Bullets have damaged property and worried residents as police search for the gunman, reports CBS 2's Derrick Blakley.

It's a ritzy neighborhood packed with newly-made mansions, but this weekend, a River North high rise became the target for someone with a rifle and no qualms about using it.

"We're obviously worried about our safety so that will be something we'll obviously want to know more about," said building resident Arun Madisetty.

On Saturday, the gunman opened fire on the south side of the high rise at 451 West Huron.

One resident told Blakley three shots hit his balcony. Then on Sunday, more shots to the same side of the building.

Arun Madisetty, whose unit faces south, says he didn't hear the shots.

"We didn't hear anything about it until this morning, so we didn't know," Madisetty said.

Today, the building management put up flyers informing residents to check their terraces and report any damage by calling police.

It is a worrisome incident for all who frequent the area. Sam Berngard doesn't live in the building, but uses the parking garage inside.

"My husband works right around the corner so that is concerning to know, not to be warned about that," Berngard said.
