The Legend Of Kyle Schwarber Is Growing
(CBS) Cubs rookie catcher Kyle Schwarber joined some elite company Tuesday in what served as both a homecoming for him and a crash landing onto the national baseball scene.
In leading Chicago to a 5-4 win in extra innings at Cincinnati in his native state, Schwarber became just the fourth Cubs player since 1984 to hit two homers in the ninth inning or later. The other three? Ryne Sandberg in 1984 in the "Sandberg Game," Andre Dawson in 1990 and Sammy Sosa in 1993, according to Comcast SportsNet research guru Christopher Kamka. Ron Santo and Dave Kingman were the other two Cubs to accomplish the feat prior to 1984, according to the Tribune's Mark Gonzales.
In the ninth inning with the Cubs down 4-2, Schwarber worked back from 0-2 to force a full count and fouled over severl two-strike pitches, then deposited a blast deep into the right-field bleachers.
He took a moment to watch it as well.
With the game still tied at 4-4 in the 13th, Schwarber drilled a 2-2 pitch on a line for a homer to right that proved to be the game-winner.

For the season, Schwarber's hitting .410 with three homers, 10 RBIs and a 1.183 OPS in 11 games.
