Taylor Swift's October Concert At Minute Maid Park Moved In Anticipation Of Astros Reaching Postseason

(CBS) There weren't great expectations for the Astros entering to the 2015 season.

With that in mind, there was initially little hesitation last winter when a Taylor Swift concert was scheduled for Oct. 13 at Minute Maid Park, home of the Astros. The conventional wisdom went that the Astros, with a promising farm system but largely unproven youngsters and journeymen at the major league level, would be finished with their season on Oct. 4 after a season finale on the road against the Diamondbacks. After all, they haven't been to the postseason since being swept in the 2005 World Series by the White Sox.

A Dec. 10 tweet from the Astros' official account pointing out that Swift's concert date would be subject to change took a great deal of criticism, with some of the (tamer) comments ranging from "joke of the year" to calling the Astros "just adorable" with their tweet.

Come to find out, the Astros are indeed trumping Swift.

On Monday, it was announced that Swift's concert at Minute Maid Park as part of her The1989 World Tour has been moved to Sept. 9, so as to avoid a conflict with the Astros hosting a postseason home game. On that date, the Astros will be on a West Coast road trip.

Houston is currently 55-45, holding the first AL wild-card spot and just a game back of the Los Angeles Angels in the AL West. The Astros are serious about making a run this year too, as last week they traded for left-hander Scott Kazmir, one of the best available pitcher on the market.

"As the Astros proactively prepare for potential postseason play, we are committed to ensuring Taylor Swift fans can experience this concert at Minute Maid Park, with as much notice as possible," the team said in a statement posted to its website.

Fans can either keep their same tickets to the Swift concert or receive a refund.
