White Woman Splashed At Chicago Beach Gets Racial, Video Posted Online

Woman Gets Racial In Beach Confrontation

(CBS) -- A Plainfield mom says she found herself having a talk with her kids about racism after an ugly incident this week in Chicago.

It happened at Oak Street Beach, WBBM's Mike Krauser reports.

Raquel Bolton says she was there with her kids, 4 and 8 years old. They were in the water and angered a white woman at the water's edge.

"This woman's yelling at them because she splashed water," Bolton says.

Bolton says she approached the woman, who got in her face and started yelling and called her the "N-word." Bolton recorded some of the exchange on her cell phone.

Bolton calls the woman on using the racial epithet, and is told she's exercising free speech.

"Of course you haven't graduated and you don't know the Constitution," the woman tells Bolton.

Bolton, who has shared the encounter on social media, including YouTube, says other people have told her they would have had a hard time holding back.

"I pulled out my camera and I videotaped the ignorance," Bolton says. "And I shared it."

She says she has told her children that not all white people are like the woman they encountered on the beach.
