Two Killed, 11 Wounded In Chicago Shootings

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Thirteen people were shot — two fatally — across Chicago Thursday.

The most recent fatal shooting occurred about 11:40 p.m. in the South Chicago neighborhood.

Two men — ages 35 and 19 — were standing outside in the 8900 block of South Houston when a vehicle drove by and someone inside shot them, police said.

The 35-year-old was shot in the upper left part of his chest and was dead at the scene, police said. The younger man was shot in the leg and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition had stabilized.

The first fatal shooting happened at 3:45 a.m. in the West Pullman neighborhood on the Far South Side.

A 21-year-old man was shot in the head, back and arm in the 12000 block of South Prairie, according to police.

He was taken to Roseland Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The Cook County medical examiner's office could not confirm either fatality late Thursday.

In the most recent nonfatal shooting, a man was injured while sitting on a porch in the South Shore neighborhood.

About 11:30 p.m., the 49-year-old was sitting on a porch with several other people in the 7400 block of South Kenwood when someone walked up and opened fire, police said.

The man suffered several graze wounds to his abdomen and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in good condition, police said.

About 11 p.m., two men, 24 and 29, were standing on a sidewalk in the 1100 block of West 59th Street when an unknown male walked up and shot them before running away, police said.

The 24-year-old was shot in the right leg, and the older man was shot in the left leg, police said. Both were taken to Stroger Hospital where their conditions were stabilized.

At 6:30 p.m., a 37-year-old man was shot in the North Side Rogers Park neighborhood.

He was shot in the right arm in the 6900 block of North Lakewood, police said. He was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he was in good condition, police said.

Twenty minutes earlier, an 18-year-old woman was seriously injured in a Little Village drive-by.

She was standing on a corner in the 2400 block of South Sawyer when a blue Pontiac pulled up and someone inside fired shots, police said. She was struck in the chest and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition.

A 25-year-old man was shot and seriously injured in a Chatham neighborhood fight at 4:30 p.m.

He and another man got into an argument over drugs in the 200 block of West 87th Street, police said. The other man pulled out a gun, shot him in the abdomen and then took off in a black van, police said.

The 25-year-old was taken in serious condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

A 14-year-old boy and 20-year-old man were shot two hours earlier in the Gage Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

The pair was in an alley in the 5900 block of South Maplewood when a gunman ran up and opened fire, police said.

The man drove himself to Holy Cross Hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg. His condition stabilized, police said.

The teen was grazed by a ricocheting bullet. He declined medical treatment at the scene, police said.

At 12:50 p.m., a man was hurt in a drive-by shooting in the South Deering neighborhood on the Far South Side.

The 26-year-old man was in an alley at 106th and Bensley when someone fired shots from a dark SUV, police said. He was shot in the right arm and was treated at the scene.

Thursday's first shooting happened several hours earlier in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.

A 21-year-old man was in a vehicle in the 700 block of South Spaulding about 3:15 a.m. when someone fired shots and struck him in the left leg, police said.

He took himself to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

Additionally, Chicago Police officers shot a man wanted on battery and assault charges early Thursday after an eight-hour standoff in the Bronzeville neighborhood on the South Side.

Police said the armed man barricaded himself inside a home in the 4800 block of South Calumet Wednesday night. He exchanged gunfire with officers about 3 a.m. after they released gas canisters in the home following negotiation attempts. At least one officer returned fire, striking him multiple times.

The man was taken in serious condition to Stroger Hospital, according to Fraternal Order of Police spokesman Pat Camden.
