John Fox: Kevin White's Injury Likely Stems From Over-Training For Combine

(CBS) Bears rookie receiver Kevin White's shin injury that has kept him sidelined during camp likely stems from training too hard leading up to last February's NFL Combine, coach John Fox told the Jim Rome Show on Tuesday evening.

"Whether you call it shin splints or his shin just flared up, it's probably due to over-training for the combine and a lot of things you do," Fox said. "We caught it really with a week left to go in OTAs (in June). We did shut him down. The key to that is getting off your legs, especially the pounding on the grass. You know, these guys come out of college having played a whole college season, then they train like crazy. You know, Kevin's a very serious guy about his profession and worked very hard."

"We're just being cautious. He hasn't done anything in seven weeks."

After practice Wednesday in Bourbonnais, Fox confirmed White's injury isn't serious and that he's hopeful he'll return soon. The Bears don't want to put White on the field until he's in top conditioning as well as health, so as to not risk injuring something else, Fox added. White has been watching practice and participating in meetings.
