Some Patrick Kane Fans Giving Him The Benefit Of Doubt

(CBS) – When you're a Blackhawks-themed restaurant, player triumphs and troubles are part of business.

"I'm stunned about some the things that people have told me. My text messages have blown up," Palace Grill restaurant owner George Lemperis tells CBS 2's Jeremy Ross.

He calls Patrick Kane more than a franchise player.

"Patrick Kane is a friend of mine," Lemperis says.

Brigid Morrison is so invested in No. 88 -- she named her Golden Retriever after him.

"A lot of people like to joke that we accurately named him because he gets into a lot of trouble," she says.

Many are not laughing, following reports the Stanley Cup hero is under a police investigation in upstate New York. He has not been charged with wrongdoing.

Sports business expert Mark Ganis says, with what little information we know, the investigation doesn't signal the end of a career, or near-term endorsements.

Ganis isn't seeing any damage to the team, adding it is isolated to Kane.

"It is something that will need to be addressedn even if it turns out there's nothing to it," he says.
