2 Killed, 12 Wounded In Monday Shootings
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two men were killed and 12 other people were wounded in shootings Monday across Chicago, police said.
In the most recent fatal shooting, a man was killed and a woman was wounded Monday night in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side, police said.
About 9:30 p.m., police found the 37-year-old man unresponsive on a porch in the 3800 block of West Monroe Street, police said.
He had suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the back and neck and was dead at the scene, police said.
A short time later, officers responding to a call of a person shot in the 4000 block of West Lake Street found a 34-year-old woman with gunshot wounds to the arm, police said. She told investigators that she had been with the man on Monroe Street when she heard gunfire, felt pain, then ran to Lake Street.
The woman was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where her condition was stabilized, police said.
Less than 30 minutes earlier, a man was fatally shot in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side, police said.
Officers responding to reports of a person shot about 9:05 p.m. in the 4300 block of West Van Buren found the 33-year-old man on a porch with multiple gunshot wounds to the head and torso, according to police.
He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.
The Cook County medical examiner's office could not immediately confirm either fatality.
The most recent nonfatal shooting left two people injured in the Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side.
A 24-year-old man was standing outside in the 1300 block of East 72nd Street talking to a 27-year-old woman inside a vehicle at 11:05 p.m. when a dark-colored sedan drove up and one of its occupants opened fire, police said.
The man was shot in the abdomen and transported himself to Jackson Park Hospital, police said. The woman was shot in the wrist and taken by ambulance to Jackson Park Hospital. Both of their conditions were stabilized. A police source said the man is a documented gang member.
About 9:30 p.m., two men were shot in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side.
The men, ages 23 and 31, were both shot in the 100 block of East 114th Place, police said. The 23-year-old suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the body and was listed in critical condition, but hospital information was not immediately available, police said. The older man was shot in the leg and took himself to Roseland Community Hospital. A police source said both men are documented gang members.
Earlier Monday, a 16-year-old boy was shot in the Brighton Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
The teen was in the 4000 block of South California about 6:35 p.m. when another male rode up on a bicycle and asked him about his gang affiliation, police said. The bike rider then fired two shots, striking the teen in the shoulder. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition stabilized, police said.
About 5:40 p.m., two teenage boys and an 18-year-old man were shot in the Grand Boulevard neighborhood on the South Side.
The three were standing outside in the 4800 block of South Evans when a newer gray vehicle pulled up and someone got out and fired shots, police said.
The 13-year-old was shot in the right foot and right leg, police said. He was taken to Comer Children's Hospital, where his condition had stabilized. The 15-year-year old suffered a graze wound to his hip and took himself to Comer Children's Hospital, police said. His condition was not known late Monday. The man was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his left thigh, police said. His condition had also stabilized.
Monday morning, a 33-year-old man was shot in the Northwest Side Irving Park neighborhood.
The man was shot once in each leg at 11:20 a.m. near Belle Plaine and St. Louis, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized. A source said the victim is a documented gang member. Police were speaking to two "people of interest" in connection to the shooting.
About 1:20 a.m., a man was shot in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side.
The 24-year-old was standing outside in the 5400 block of South Justine when he heard gunfire and realized he'd been shot in the hip and leg, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition. A police source said the man is a documented gang member.
Monday's first shooting happened at 1:03 a.m. in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side.
A 16-year-old boy was walking in the 6500 block of South King Drive when someone fired shots in his direction, police said. He suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital.
