Bears Notes: Timetable For Alshon Jeffery's Return Remains Uncertain

(CBS) Bears No. 1 receiver Alshon Jeffery once again missed practice Monday with a strained left calf, and though coach John Fox termed him "day-to-day," there remains no clear timetable for his return.

Jeffery has been out since suffering the injury nearly two weeks ago. He hasn't played in either of the team's preseason games. To make matters more difficult, rookie receiver Kevin White will miss at least the first six games of the season and perhaps the entire season with a shin injury, and receiver Marquess Wilson missed Monday's practice with a hamstring injury.

"It's all critical," Bears coach John Fox said of getting Jeffery back. "It's better when you're out there, regardless of what position or what person you're talking about. He's day-to-day. When they clear him medically and we feel like that's the smartest thing to do, he'll be out there. I won't be able to tell you until we get closer to game day."

Is Fox worried that Jeffery could miss the season opener against the Packers on Sept. 13?

"I worry about everything," Fox said. "It comes with the territory. We prefer him out there, and he's doing everything he can to get out there. It's nobody's fault. It's not his fault, it's not our fault. It's part of football."

The Bears visit the Bengals on Saturday evening for their third preseason game, which serves as a dress rehearsal for the regular season. Though general manager Ryan Pace has downplayed the severity of Jeffery's injury previously, indications are he won't be ready for Saturday.

Safety Ryan Mundy (hip) and tight end Chris Pantale (illness) also sat out Monday's practice.

Langford impresses

Bears rookie reserve running back Jeremy Langford made a big impression on Fox with his nine-carry, 80-yard, one-touchdown performance Saturday against the Colts.

"Outstanding," Fox said. "I think he saw early in camp that it wasn't too big for him, wasn't too fast. He's very humble, a sharp guy who's willing to learn, and he has talent.

"Every time they go out there, I tell the team they're going to pick the roster. So those performances are big. I think he's had two pretty good outings."

Fox on Nelson injury: 'Hate' it

The biggest NFL news of the weekend was that Packers star receiver Jordy Nelson may miss the entire 2015 season after suffering a knee injury in Sunday's preseason game against the Steelers. Green Bay fears that it's a torn ACL, though it's still waiting on official confirmation.

"I hate to see players get hurt," Fox said. "Much like us and much like everybody else in the league, you deal with it and life goes on."
